|Why Choose Grace Counseling|
Six Reasons to Consider
Professional Education,Training, and Experience
I hold a BA in History (Cum Laude) from Boise State University and Master Degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy (1997) and Divinity (1995) from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS. I have been a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1997. For four years (1999 -2003) I was Director of Congregational Care at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, KS. I was a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Ohio (2005 -2007) before moving to Florida in 2007. I am currently a Licensed Therapy Intern in the State of Florida. I am a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Background in Christian Ministry
In addition I have over 20 years experience in Christian ministry. I was a staff member at Calvary Chapel of Boise, Idaho in charge of discipleship and outreach. I served several assistant pastoral positions while attending Reformed Seminary and pastored Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Ohio (2004-2007) and Morning Star Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach, Fl (2007 -2009). I am an ordained minister in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church, a conservative evangelical denomination.
Spiritual Traveler and Grace Addict
I didn't start out this way! I was born the number six child of a six generation LDS (Mormon) family in Boise, Idaho. I was brought to Christ and saved from a life of addiction and chaos my senior year in High School through the faithful witness of a Nazarene classmate. It took me many years to escape the legalism of my upbringing as well the fallout of depression and addiction.
I am a lover of Christ because he has loved me. He has shown me the transforming power of Grace and the power to escape old bonds as I place my faith in him.
A Thankful Counselor
Through the years he has increasingly focused my life towards full time counseling. In the summer of 2009 I made the "faith jump" from ten years of being a part time counselor to being a full time counselor. I have a gift of grace, combined with really great training, to connect with people in their various life situations and lead them through the valley. I enjoy what I do. It is a sacred and holy thing. I get joy from it.
It would be my great privilege for a season of time to be your friend and companion as you negotiate and seek healing from lifes hurts and straggles. I have an assurance from Christ that he will be with us.
Reasonable Fees and Flexible Hours
My basic fee for counseling is considerably lower than most counseling offices. For those suffering severe financial hardship a sliding scale according to income is available. While I am not a non profit (501c3 agency) I do strive to serve everyone on the economic spectrum. No one is ever turned away because of finances. Folks on the "higher" end help pay for those on the "lower" end. That's how it works.
I have flexible day and evening hours. I also do "therapy intensives" of two hours or more on the weekends by special appointment.
Great Location and Easy Access
My office is located in the second story of the historic Helsin Plantation Building at 915 Old Dixie SW in Vero Beach (the SW corner of Oslo Road and Old Dixie just off US Hwy 1). Fort Pierce residents can usually expect a 10 to 15 minute drive. Access from towns north of Vero Beach (Sebastian and beyond) have an easy trip south on US 1 or take the 95 S. to Hwy60/20 to US Hwy 1 route.
